INTRODUCTION
 

 

The rapid rate of urbanization and development has led to increase in consumption of plastic products vis-à-vis plastic waste generation. It is a fact that plastics waste constitutes a significant portion of the total municipal solid waste (MSW) generated in India.

 

India generates more than 25,000 tones of plastic waste every day, 40 per cent of which remains uncollected and littered in the environment. As per the study conducted by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in 60 major cities of India, it has been observed that around 4059 T/day of plastic waste is generated from these cities in 2010-12. The fraction of plastic waste in total Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) varies from 3.10% (Chandigarh) to 12.47% (Surat). Average plastic waste generation is around 6.92% of MSW.

 

Also, as per the results of the study, out of total plastic waste, around 94% waste comprises of thermoplastic content, which is recyclable such as PET, LDPE, HDPE, PVC, etc. and remaining 6% belongs to the family of thermoset and other categories of plastics such as sheet molding compound (SMC), fiber reinforced plastic (FRP), multi-layered, thermocol etc., which is non-recyclable.

E Waste Epr Service- The consumption of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) is strongly linked to widespread global economic development. Higher levels of disposable incomes, growing urbanization and mobility, and further industrialization in some parts of the world are leading to growing amounts of EEE. After its use, EEE is disposed of, generating a waste stream that contains hazardous and valuable materials. This waste stream is referred to as e-waste, or Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). In 2019, the world generated a striking 53.6 Mt of e-waste, an average of 7.3 kg per capita. The global generation of e-waste grew by 9.2 Mt since 2014, and is projected to grow to 74.7 Mt by 2030 – almost doubling in only 16 years. In 2019, the formal documented collection and recycling of e-waste was 9.3 Mt, or 17.4% compared to e-waste generated. A total of 71 kt of plastics are found in globally undocumented flows of e-waste annually, which is largely released into nature and impacts environmental and human health. Although there are individual efforts to improve the collection and recycling of plastics in e-waste at the local level, the plastics value chain remains fragmented, with a significant percentage of the global e-waste stream being transported to developing countries and processed in rudimentary and dangerous conditions, or otherwise dumped and burned in open pits.
