EPR - Extended Producer's Responsibility

AFR - Alternative Fuels and Raw Materials
Alternative fuels and raw materials (AFR) are substitutes for traditional fossil fuels and raw materials. In the context of plastic waste, EPR would require Producers, Importers, and Brand-owners of plastic products to take responsibility for managing (collection, segregation, and recycling/end-of-life disposal) the waste generated from their products. This could include financing waste management systems, ensuring that their products can be recycled or safely disposed of, or supporting clean-up efforts in communities impacted by plastic waste.

 

Why EPR?

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) of India has issued guidelines for implementing the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program for plastic waste management in India. The guidelines aim to ensure that Producers, Brand Owners, and Importers of plastic products take responsibility for the end-of-life management of the plastic waste generated from their products.Under the EPR program, producers of plastic products are required to establish collection systems for the plastic waste generated from their products and to finance the treatment and disposal of the collected plastic waste.
