Sequenced Batch Reactor - (SBR)

W&WW Technologies
Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

The activated sludge process or biological stage of this STP/ WWTP is designed as "sequenced batch reactor" (SBR) and represents one of the most modern treatment concepts being used for sewage treatment plants. The main functionality of the biological stage can be described as.
The cleaning/ treatment process takes place in one or more SBR reactors, depending on the plant design. Each SBR reactor operates according to the activated sludge process, but with an improved operation-concept, which uses the reactor as an aeration tank as well as a clarification system. In a SBR process, an extensive removal of dissolved organic substances can be achieved by nitrification and denitrification and optionally phosphorous removal. The special characteristic of the SBR process is that in a single treatment process phases of an activated sludge plant (aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic, mixture as well as sedimentation) is performed in a time controlled manner in one tank.

Our WSBR is an completely Automated System with reliable output.

Our advanced SBR treatment system operation can be illustrated as,

Loading phase
The sewage water collected in the collection and equalization chamber is fed into the SBR tank. The filling of water in the SBR tank is done through airlift pump or mechanical pump depending on the design.

Aeration phase
Activated sludge in the presence of air/ oxygen consumes the pollutants in the SBR chamber. Air is supplied in time sequenced manner in this phase.

An anoxic phase can be introduced depending on requirement to have denitrification in the water after loading phase.

Rest Phase
During the rest phase, the activated sludge settles at the bottom of the tank. A clear water zone appears in the on the upper layer of water in the SBR tank.

Clearwater extraction
The clear water from the upper layer is then transferred for subsequent reuse or disposal to treated water tank, drain or farm. Thereafter, the settled activated sludge in the SBR tank is returned to the collection tank and the process is repeated.

The treated water tank receives SBR treated water that can be pumped to the garden directly without any need for further filtration.
